Follow these basic steps if you're going to detox.
You are what you eat.
Eat good things, and your body responds positively. You feel good. You have energy. Maybe even your tummy feels tighter.
Eat bad things, and your body will respond negatively. You feel bloated, sluggish, achey, even perhaps depressed.
Why are you thinking of doing a "detox"? A detox can mean several things:
1. You want to clean the gunk out of your pipes. This includes a good solid colon cleanse.
2. You want to reduce bloating.
3. You want to reduce cravings - reset your palate.
4. You want to eliminate chemicals from your body.
First,
If you're going to flush toxins from the body, you should make sure that you're not putting any additional toxins into the body. Many detox diets have you reduce or eliminate red meat and dairy. Personally, I don't think that's such a huge deal. I would however, recommend that you eliminate alcohol, processed foods, cooked oils, sugars, salt and possibly caffeine.
Second,
Increase your intake of vegetables, which increases fiber, cleans the colon naturally and de-bloats.
Third,
Increase fiber intake, through raw vegetables, flax seeds and chia seeds.
Fourth,
Drink lots (8-10) glasses of water.
Fifth,
Take it to the next level - if you want. Focus on medicinal mushrooms, fermented vegetables.
Finally,
Stay away from the foods that you eliminated in step one. By continuing to consume "bad things", you'll continue to gunk the pipes, and feel poorly.
There are plenty of products on the market that will help you "cleanse", but they are really unnecessary, if you follow these six steps. Besides, the instructions on the side panels of these products will probably tell you the very same thing (steps 1-6, above).
Will you feel better? Absolutely! And, you'll have more energy. A side effect of a "detox" is resetting your palate, which could result in reduced cravings. Keep in mind, however, that if you stray from the final step above, which is staying away from the "bad things", your cravings will return.
Eat Good Things.
Avoid Bad Things.
Move Your Body.
